Project summary

Engage young adults, ages 17-24, in energy efficiency testing within vulnerable communities and weatherization fixes to help folks save money on their monthly bills throughout the South Carolina Lowcountry. AmeriCorps members receive training, build field skills, and make connections while contributing to these sustainability efforts.

Opportunity description

Engage in weatherization activities that take place at residential homes in Charleston, Berkeley, Horry, and Georgetown counties. This includes activities such as installing energy efficiency upgrades in homes; assisting with energy audit data collection; receiving knowledge on Building Science and energy efficiency construction practices; assisting homeowners on energy conservation practices through workshops; energy audit data entry; community surveying, and other restoration activities.

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

Available during program hours (8am-4pm Monday-Friday); successful completion of criminal history check; between the ages of 17-24 during enrollment; high school diploma or GED; climbing, heavy lifting, bending, working from one's knees or back, working in excessive hot, cold, or rainy conditions, accessing tighter spaces such as attic and crawlspaces.

Preferred qualifications

Reliable transportation to and from our office; valid Driver's License with an insurable driving record.
