Project summary
Ready to help meet the most pressing needs of rural Oregon? In this position with the City of La Grande, you'll be strengthening the local food system by supporting small-scale food manufacturing, micro producers and makers. You'll help develop a shared use commercial kitchen, build relationships with and support local food entrpreneurs, do outreach at the farmers market and other events, and more- in order to grow and sustain local food efforts in La Grande and the surrounding county.
Opportunity description
Have a passion for local foods? Working with the City of La Grande in northeast Oregon as a RARE member, you will work closely with city staff and partners to develop relationships with local food producers and makers, in order to strengthen the local food economy. You'll gain hands-on experience with city government and small businesses, and build vital professional skills. NOTE: The service year starts in Oregon on Sept. 4, 2024. Requirements and qualifications
Requirements
Bachelor's degree; U.S. citizen or permanent resident; 6 months applied community experience AND coursework, OR equivalent experience in 3 or more of these areas: planning or statistical analysis, economic theory, project management, community or economic development, environmental planning, geographic information systems, grant writing; Proficiency in computer use; Pass a check of the National Sexual Offender Public Registry, FBI check and criminal background check of state registries.

Effective teamwork; Ability to stay organized and on-track with projects and processes; Technical skills including data collection, analysis, and representation, large document creation, grant writing, GIS, website development, policy analysis; Strong written, verbal, and graphic communications; Ability to handle conflict and maintain good relationships; Commitment to volunteerism and service; Ability to create inclusive spaces; Commitment to rural community development; Driver's license helpful
