Project summary

Fight Climate Change in Your Community. Make a difference, and make a better future for yourself at Mile High Youth Corps. We are a group of young people who are focused on combatting Climate Change and educating ourselves on the issues that face our community. The Energy & Water Conservation program (E&W) is a team-based, 26 or 35-week program for individuals between the ages of 18-24. E&W participants (called Corpsmembers) serve on community-based energy and water conservation projects throughout the Denver metro area.

Opportunity description

Mile High Youth Corps is a nonprofit social enterprise program powered by Corpsmembers. Complete a Term of Service with our Colorado Climate Corps program. This is a team-based, 11 to 48 week-long program. Climate Action Corpsmembers will serve Metro Denver residents by installing in-home energy and water-saving measures (lowflow toilets, kitchen and bathroom aerators, programmable thermostats, and LED light bulbs). Corpsmembers will serve in teams of 2-3 to complete daily household appointments

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

This program requires some Corpsmembers to be program drivers; driver eligibility requirements: a minimum 21 years old, a valid driver's license, and an insurable DMV record. A Pre-Service National Service Criminal History Check is required. Must not engage in any prohibited activities listed in the AmeriCorps member service agreement and must adhere to rules and regulations specified in the MHYC handbook. Travel with MHYC vehicles is required during service.

Preferred qualifications

Between 18-24 years old. Must be eligible for enrollment in AmeriCorps as a US Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident. Documentation will be required on the first day. High School Diploma or GED required. English proficiency; bilingual Spanish-speaking applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. Capable of participating in physical labor including but not limited to: the ability to lift 50 lbs., able to conduct repetitive hand and arm motions, and able to maneuver in tight spaces.
