Project summary

Engage local youth in Lincoln and Otero County in waterway restoration in Lincoln National Forest. Work will be primarily in White Mountain Wilderness Area restoring streams and water ways with Wildlife Biologists and other USDA-Forest Service Smokey Bear District specialist. Work will be mostly Monday through Friday.

Opportunity description

The project/projects would include Low-tech Process-based Restoration on watersheds in the Eagle Creek Drainage. Process-based restoration includes the installation of beaver dam analogs (BDA) and post-assisted log structures following the LTPBR Restoration Guide (Wheaton et al. 2009). The project focuses on watershed restoration. Additional projects would be the maintenance and repair of wildlife waters (umbrella tanks/drinkers) that support a variety of wildlife on the district

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

Must be able to hike 3 miles a day and carry 40-pound pack. Camping may be required on occasion.

Preferred qualifications

6 months experience with conservation Corps or other natural resource agencies.
