Project summary
The California Climate Action Corps (CCAC) is part of a statewide initiative to address and mitigate the effects of climate change. CCAC matches Fellows with organizations to mobilize community members to take direct climate action through education, volunteer mobilization, and assessment focused on urban greening, organic waste diversion and edible food recovery, and wildfire resiliency. This is a climate-focused, workforce development program for emerging climate and environmental leaders.
Opportunity description
As the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games approach in Southern California, Breathe SoCal's BlueSky LA program is actively engaging community members in monthly volunteer opportunities to improve air quality. With a focus on measurable reductions in pollutant emissions and fostering community collaboration, our program aims to beautify the local environment and enhance public health before the world arrives in 2028. As a Community Engagement Fellow for BlueSky LA, you will play a pivotal role in organizing community projects, expanding our network of diverse partnerships, and mobilizing volunteers to support our air quality improvement initiatives. Fellows will oversee the recruitment and coordination of volunteers for events and utilize our innovative tracking system to monitor project success and contribute to meaningful change. Duties include, but are not limited to: Expand and strengthen Blue Sky LA's volunteer base - coordinating recruitment efforts and maintaining a volunteer database - for projects and events. Develop social media strategy and content for community outreach and events. Cultivate and maintain relationships with local organizations, program partners, and school groups to support BlueSky LA initiatives and bolster community engagement. Assist in the development of a web-based dashboard to highlight partnerships, volunteer events, and event success stories.

Requirements and qualifications
Requirements
Live in California by August 16, 2024. Must be age 18 or older by August 16, 2024. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be a US Citizen, US National, or lawful US resident to participate.
Preferred qualifications
An interest in climate change mitigation, volunteerism, or public service. Experience with outreach, education, training, or community behavior change. Fundamental understanding of climate change science, environmental policies in California, and/or environmental priorities. Excellent organizational, writing, interpersonal, and speaking skills.
