Project summary

Engage young Americans in connecting youth and the community to food and where their food comes from. This includes conducting taste tests, educational activities, cooking, and gardening lessons.

Opportunity description

Partner with current HOM (Harvest of the Month) sites to assist with their HOM activities; make new connections with organizations, schools, early care providers, plan and conduct taste tests, educational activities, and cooking and gardening lessons. Assist with producer visits and field trips to SIFT. Assist sites with funding for HOM activities. Increase outreach and education with local organizations, schools, and nonprofits. Attend community events to increase awareness of HOM.

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

High school diploma. Valid driver’s license. ability to lift 50 lbs. Willing to learn how to use semi-large machinery. and willing to work in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions.

Preferred qualifications

Comfortable leading educational activities. leading cooking and gardening lessons. and making connections with community members of all ages. Must be interested in agriculture, food systems, agricultural education, and have a knowledge of local food system issues.
